Bringing back fair and common-sense taxation and spending
The deeply-flawed fiscal policies of Governor Brownback and our legislature have created an economic crisis. Our astronomical sales tax and illogical tax cuts put Kansas in the red month after month. These policies are so far from Kansans’ common-sense values, and we’ve got to act swiftly before more damage is done.
Providing adequate funding for our schools
Instead of taking steps to fix our failing economy, Gov. Brownback and lawmakers decided they’d make up for our fiscal shortfalls by balancing them on the backs of our school children. This is immoral and wrong.
To prepare our children for the jobs of the future, we have to provide them with a high-quality education. With diminished resources and opportunities for learning, there’s no way we can expect our children to succeed. We must fix our education system and provide quality education for our students, no matter their zip code.
Keeping rural hospitals open and Kansans healthy by expanding Medicaid
Our federal tax dollars are going to other states, like California and New York, to provide health insurance coverage to their residents because our state has refused to expand Medicaid. Since January 2014, Kansas has left over $1.1 billion on the table and 1 in 3 rural Kansas hospitals are at risk of closure. We must expand Medicaid to keep Kansas healthy and keep our hospitals open and servicing the public.
